Looking for An Insulation Company in Austin?
Here Are Some Tips

Insulation Companies in Austin pink skyline

Trying to find the best insulation contractor to fit your personal needs can be extremely difficult. Just because someone is on the front page, does that mean they’re the best? Or did they just pay for someone to label them as the best insulation company in Austin?

Do reviews matter the most? If so, why do some companies have dozens and other contractors have hardly any? And after reading some of those Yelp reviews, it’s a surprise that people pay attention to them at all.

But you need some insulation work done on your home, and you want a professional insulation company to do it. Either you don’t have time, don’t have any desire to learn it, or don’t like the feeling of itchy fiberglass all over your skin. Trust us, it’s not one of our favorite parts of the job either.

So, aside from taking an apprenticeship at the local contractors union, here’s what to look for when shopping for insulation contractors in Austin.

What's the Cost for Insulation in Austin?

We’re really old fashioned when it comes to being straightforward about things. We don’t beat around the bush with important issues. Obviously, one of the most important questions you can ask when it comes to working on your home is the cost.

It’s is very difficult to give an exact estimate without thoroughly examining the project. But often contractors seem to avoid the topic all together. When a home improvement company refuses or continuously changes the subject whenever costs are brought up, you may want to look at other options. These are the types of crews that hand you a bill after the fact with more added costs than a hospital stay.

Another red flag with insulation costs is when they’re way too high or way too low. A company overcharging right off the bat is usually a characteristic of larger businesses with multiple locations, trucks, and tons of employees. There’s absolutely nothing wrong with a business growing and expanding. But if you see their company trucks driving around all over Austin all the time, how do you think they were able to afford them?

On the other hand, if you find a guy on Craigslist that shows up on a bicycle and offers to insulate your entire attic for $75 (cash up front, of course) run.

It’s good to do a little bit of homework as to what insulation contractors are currently charging in Austin. Then find a company with similar prices. This means that they’re fair, yet competitive with the other local companies. They’re most likely professionals, but aren’t looking to have you pay for a new office in San Antonio.

Does the Insulation Company Have Appointments Available?

If you’re looking to get an attic insulated before winter, you probably don’t need to start looking in June. Not in Austin anyway. But if you recently noticed a noticeable draft blowing in super-heated air through your attic, that needs fixed right away.

Being too busy isn’t always a bad sign. It could mean that the insulation company is good and has strong word of mouth. But, it could also mean that they are understaffed, or even worse, a little lazy. Maybe they only get around to doing jobs when they feel like it.

Of course, if they don’t have anything going on, that might be a red flag. You don’t want to have to trust a contractor that nobody wants to hire.

It’s important to ask this question very early in the conversation. On our contact form, which you can see on this page, we have a section to ask about when you hope to schedule your project. This works for our benefit as well. We don’t want to disappoint a potential customer either. If you have a job that you need done right away and we aren’t able to accommodate, we’ll recommend that you call another Austin insulation contractor.

What About Reviews from Past Insulation Projects?

It seems like every product or service in the entire world has a star rating attached to it. If they don’t, it’s very likely that they’re losing business because of it. Companies like Yelp, Facebook, and Google have large portions of their companies dedicated to maintaining reviews on businesses.

But how important are those star ratings? Should you automatically disregard an insulation company with 4 stars if there are contractors with 5 stars? Or, what if they don’t have (GASP!) any reviews at all! Are they even a real company?

This is a question that needs to be answered on an individual, case-by-case basis. If a company has countless five star reviews, it could be a great sign. Or it could mean that they may have gone out of their way to get them in a less than legitimate way.

Another scenario is a company that has only a few reviews, but a so-so star rating. If this is the case, read the negative reviews. In many cases, it’s a customer that was upset about something that had very little to do with the actual work. Issues like pricing, services offered, or availability may cause someone to leave a poor review, even though they never even used the company.

The highest reviewed insulation company in Austin may be the best. Or it may be the contractor with the most friends. Reviews should be taken into consideration, but they shouldn’t be the only factor in your ultimate decision.

What's Your Initial Impression When You Speak to Them?

I’m old school. There are a bunch of lessons that I learned when I was growing up that aren’t really taught as much these days. Things like trust your gut, and you only get one chance to make a first impression.

When I call a company, literally ANYONE, the way they treat me on that initial phone call is so important. It completely lays the foundation for how the rest of the relationship will be. When you’re calling an insulation contractor to ask pricing or availability, you don’t want someone with absolutely no information to answer your call. You at least want a ballpark on costs, or what month they can do the job.

Unfortunately, many insulation contractors in Austin don’t necessarily feel the same way. Whether it’s because of costs, or not really feeling like that first impression is important, one of two things will happen. Someone will answer the call, provide no information, then ask for your personal information so someone can call you. Or, the phone will ring and nobody will answer at all. Maybe you leave a message, but if someone isn’t calling you back within the hour, that’s a sure sign (to me anyway) that they don’t really want your business.

You know who does want your business? South Austin Drywall & Insulation. You can call us 7 days per week, and if someone doesn’t answer the phone, they will return your call immediately. Give us a shot, you’ll be glad you did.
